“We’re leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when we’ll be back again …”

It seems a lifetime ago, not just two weeks ago, that we said goodbye to the Baltic. Not all our Mad Midlifers are back in their own beds yet – some are still gallivanting around the world! But most have made their final stopovers and completed that long return flight home.

Body-clocks take a while longer to adjust, of course. My wife is still waking at weird times in the night, wanting to get up/read her book/annoy me. But we’re almost back to normal.

So far, there’s enthusiastic agreement from everyone I’ve spoken to: we had a FABULOUS time! Our Scandinavian experience of luxury-at-sea and discovery-on-shore was a huge success – we saw so much, did so much, learned so much and laughed so much that it’s hard to know where to put it all!

To tell you the truth, our families and friends had better brace themselves – because (collectively) we’ve come home with a squillion photos … and, for a very long time to come, we won’t be able to shut up about

  • “Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen …”
  • the spectacular fjords of Norway …
  • riding the mountain train in Flam …
  • zig-zagging our way up Mt Dalsnibba …
  • that stony-beach stop for waffles near Pulpit Rock …
  • our ‘Sand Worm’ race along the beach in Denmark …
  • climbing the ‘Hill of Witches’ in Klaipeda …
  • the feast-for-sore-eyes that awaited us in St Petersburg …
  • wandering the cobbled lanes of Tallinn Old Town …
  • our motor-launch tour of Stockholm’s waterfront …
  • not to forget grand, enduring London … magnificent, arrogant Paris … and soothing, picturesque Amsterdam.

You have been warned!

Right now, however, I’m blogged out. We’ve got people to call, emails to write, a brand new Grapevine to put together, and 101 other things to think of (including our next Mad Midlife adventure).

So, it’s goodbye from me – and it’s goodnight from her. Thanks for sharing this journey with us …

JOHN
